Day Care Consultation Program

The Child Care Consultation Project (CCCP), serving the Washington, D.C., area for over 15 years, is now under the auspices of the Jenny Waelder Hall Center for Children.

The program provides consultation to child care staff about the social development of children, behavior problems, parenting concerns, and associated issues. Consultants have met at least monthly with the staffs of participating centers, have provided in-service training on relevant issues, and have offered lectures, workshops and discussion groups on child development, and parent education. Consultants can suggest references and resources for staff, parents, and children. All of these services are provided free of charge.

Topics for consultation have included:

  • Problem behaviors such as biting, tantrums, withdrawal, and aggression. Developmental issues such as separation anxiety, toilet training, and fears
  • Early identification of developmental delays, emotional problems, and learning disabilities
  • Healthy development through curriculum, programming, and classroom management
  • Dealing with traumatized children (e.g., abuse, neglect, illness)
  • Effective staff communication
  • Successful parent-staff relationships
